Benefits of Exercising With Your Kids

A lot of parents would love to begin a workout regimen; however, their busy schedules often stop them from committing to routine physical activity. Regular physical activity is very beneficial for both the parent and the child. The parent will experience a reduction in stress levels, an improvement in mood, and an increase in energy. As a result, he/she will be able to complete the daily tasks with more ease and focus. Young children can also benefit from physical activity. Recent studies show that young people are less active than ever and obesity in children is at an all time high. That is why routine physical activity is beneficial for everyone.

Everyone knows that exercise is important for those individuals who are trying to lose weight, maintain their current weight, or improve their health. Some people, especially those who are overweight, purchase the best diet pills (such as hoodia gordonii ) and along with physical activity they watch their weight drop. However, exercising with your kids is a little bit different. There are numerous fun activities which you can partake in with your kids. One great way to exercise with the whole family is to play in the pool. Exercising in the pool does not necessarily mean doing laps. There are numerous fun activities you and your kids can play, such as Marco polo or diving competitions.  Another fun activity is dance. Almost all kids love to dance. Try bringing a radio outside and feel free to act goofy with your children. And if you don’t have access to a pool and dancing is not favored by your kids, there are many outdoor activities that are fun and physically rewarding. Playing hopscotch, Simon Says, hide and seek, and jump rope, are just a few fun games that incorporate movement. The possibilities are endless.

Older kids on the other hand may enjoy rollerblading, hiking, climbing, bike riding and even walking while listening to their favorite songs on their MP3 players. So the next time you are sitting around and watching television, try to pull your kids away from their videogames and entice them to join you in one of these fun activities.

What Are The Health Benefits Of Hiking And Trekking?

Today more and more people, especially in Europe and America, are adopting hiking and trekking as a major outdoor event. Not only in these countries, but the trend of hiking and trekking is also increasing in many other parts of the world. But have you ever thought, what are the health benefits of hiking and trekking? Are these outdoor events really beneficial for health? Is hiking or trekking for everyone or has some age bar? Does hiking only has health benefits or are there any psychological benefits too?

These are some questions which quite often strike in our mind. If someone seeks answer to these questions, although most of them are subjective in nature as far as the degree of benefits is concerned, but certainly the response would be positive. Most of the people would immediately say, “Yes there are countless benefits.” No doubt, there are many benefits of hiking and trekking ranging from controlling obesity to preventing heart disease to improving the quality of air we breathe.

While many sports activities and games require special equipment or training to get started, the hiking is relatively much simpler and more beneficial than any other exercise. Literally, anyone can put on a pair of shoes along with few necessary gears and equipments and start moving into the woods for a little fresh air—this is called hiking. The scenery, accessibility and diverse nature of hiking trails make this heart-healthy pastime attractive for people of all ages, fitness levels and income brackets. Moreover, except few points, hiking and trekking don’t require any special expertise and skills.

Hiking or trekking allows us to maintain our body in good working condition by walking which is really a good exercise. It improves our physical as well as mental health and the list of benefits from hiking and trekking is infinite. Hiking is essentially walking that is considered to be one of the most perfect forms of exercise for your body. You can get a chance to spend some quality time together with the Mother Nature, so it also provides a mental health antidote. Everyone can find trails to suit their physical strengths. And unlike other activities or sports, it is a pursuit that allows people to determine their own limitations.

Many research findings and studies show that hiking is an excellent way to lose extra pounds and improve overall health. To improve overall health, we don’t necessarily need to do heavy and painful workouts, but just a short brisk walk of few minutes can be more than sufficient. According to the American Heart Association, it’s best to walk vigorously for 30 to 60 minutes 3-4 times per week. But even low- to moderate intensity walking can have both short- and long-term benefits . Similarly, According to Walking for Health, people “won’t find a better way to lose weight than walking.” The results will be more permanent and pleasurable than any diet or weight loss scheme.

For example, in December, 2001, the US surgeon general called the increased rate of obesity in the United States an epidemic. The report states that 2/3 of Americans are overweight or obese, and the number is increasing year after year. In addition, thirteen percent of children are overweight. The report recommends that communities create safe sidewalks or walking trails to encourage physical activity . Not only these, but there are many more research findings that clearly show multiple health benefits of hiking and trekking.

When it comes to enlist the health benefits, then the list may go endless consisting of several mental as well as physical health benefits, such as losing excess pounds, preventing heart disease, decreasing hypertension or high blood pressure, improving and maintaining mental health, slowing the aging process, preventing osteoporosis, improving the quality of the air we breathe, preventing and controlling diabetes, improving arthritis, relieving back pain (which has become an epidemic in the modern contemporary world along with healthy habits for a healthy life i.e. team building skills, positive attitude, kindness, empathy,

At last but not the least, hiking has countless health benefits and the beauty is that it doesn’t cost you much. Moreover, while at hiking you can take other family members and your young children along with you without much difficulty. Indeed, it is a good idea to spend more time with your family and children. For young children, it helps improve their physical stamina and team building skills.

Friends, just go for a hike, and see what we mean. Happy hiking!

Kids’ Backpacks – Benefits Of Making Your Kids Carry Their Own Backpacks

We parents always want the best for our children. And when we go for a hike, and they have grown up enough to accompany us, we try to reduce their burden by taking on additional burden for them. That’s not the right way.

The right way is teach them the rudiments of going on a hike. Teach them to pack their own clothing, tell them what kind of environment they can expect, and how to pack for it.

Buy them a backpack that is meant for the kids. There are many of them around. Get them a backpack that would carry a fairly decent amount of clothing, including separate pockets for dirty clothese and shoes. Backpacks now come with side pockets for bottles of water; some even have long pipes so that the children do not stop for that drink of water. While looking for the right backpack for your kid, look for backpacs that have so many pockets in the front and the back.

These can be useful in storing small items that children, say for instance, chocolates, or even toffees. Back pockets can be useful for carrying small lines of ropes, and also a pouch for holding a flash light, and another can carry a spare set of batteries.

The kid’s backpack needs to be of light material. It should have a harness both at the top and also near the waist. If the strap is just right for the child, buy one size bigger. It will come in handy next year as well.

Buy one with handles as well. It is easy for you to take it off your kid, and easier to put it back on.

The golden rule here is sure, help the child. But the kid’s have to learn to be independent, and packing thier own bags gives them a lot of pride, and a sense of accomplishment.

Finally, there are some things YOU need to take in your backpack. That’s carrying a first aid kit, which contains ointment for bruises, ant or other bites, and above all, if you child has some condition, then you must carry enough medication, in the event something untowards happens.

While on the trail, teach your kid what to avoid, how to overcome a gushing stream, use of proper footing, and watching out for ants on trees, and how to drink water from where, generally make it an educative experience for your child. Watch out for that sudden mis-step, and when fording streams, a protective ball of rope around your child’s waist would ensure that they don’t get a dunk in the stream unintendedly!

Best of Luck!

Benefits of Outdoor Recreation

Some people love to be outdoors and to be active while others simply do not. I have friends who would like nothing whatsoever with doing outdoor recreation like kayaking, jogging, walking, hiking and so on. It is very difficult for me to understand as being active outside is one of my most favorite things about this world we live in. For those who love the outdoors as much as I do this article will make a lot of sense. For those who only venture outside on the most beautiful of days, perhaps these words will inspire you to try a new sport or to enjoy a few breathes of fresh air.

What are the Benefits of Outdoor Recreation?

For one thing going outdoors and breathing some (hopefully) fresh air can be invigorating and do wonders to pump up our life force. I know for myself when I go for a run or take a kayaking trip I feel alive and free as well as happy and alert. I can be having the worst of days and feel completely loaded down by stress. If I go out and do some type of recreation outside I just about always come back with a clear head and a much happier outlook on life. For me, outdoor recreation is like therapy… the cheapest and best kind one could find.

Another great benefit of outdoor recreation is the bonding time. Whether you are with family or friends or even your favorite pet, doing outdoor sports and activities can help you to bond with your loved ones in a way that is difficult otherwise. It forces you to talk and interact while sharing the experience of some type of outdoor activity. Nothing could ever replace the long talks that I have had with my mom while out walking, the laughs my boyfriend and I have had while kayaking or the interesting stories my friends and I have shared while hiking. These are experiences and moments that could never be replaced and were all possible because we were sharing the outdoors together.

Did you Know that Outdoor Recreation can Save you Money?

We live in a world where there are many ups and downs and it is not always easy to feel light as well as secure. Outdoor recreation can be some of the cheapest activities possible. Going outside costs nothing. Hiking up a mountain costs nothing. Playing a game outside with your kids costs nothing. These are all outdoor activities that are easy on the pocket book and are usually a lot more fun than many other expensive outings.

Whether you like to walk or run, hike or climb, kayak or canoe… I would suggest that you get outside as much as possible and breathe in the air while we can. Outdoor recreation is one of the things that makes life so enjoyable and fun. For me, nothing could ever replace it and I couldn’t imagine a world without it. We are very lucky to have the beauty and the clean air that we do… I for one plan on taking full advantage of it.
