Together we will unravel the secrets of world mysteries like you have never seen. Episode one takes us to Pitt Lake, BC in search of the fabled Lost Gold Mine of Slumach. Said to be richer than the Lost Lemon Mine, Rappelz Lost Mine, or even the world-famous Lost Dutchmans Mine, the curse of Slumachs gold mine has claimed many lives over the years and is steeped in an abundance of local folklore and mythological history. As treasure finds go, the lost gold mine of Pitt Lake is rumoured to be the holy grail of golden treasures. The story is complete with treasure maps, mythical creatures, tales of gold nuggets that are ankle deep, suspense, murder and mystery. Gold prospectors have searched for this mother lode of gold for almost a century. But still the mysterious gold deposits, estimated to be worth billions at todays gold prices, still manage to elude us all. Bushwhack Adventures. Where the trail ends, the journey begins.

Four Uncommon Outdoor Adventures
When you are ready for outdoor adventures, but want to try something new, you have to think in new ways. Forget the mountain bike or the paid rafting tour. Here are some low budget interesting things you may not have tried.
Mine Hunting
A friend and I have been to Phantom Canyon six times this spring, hiking in the hills and exploring narrow gulches. Five of those times we have found an abandoned mine or two. Most were less than forty feet deep, and a classic hole in the wall. One was discovered by following a trail of beautiful quartz boulders uphill for twenty minutes, until we found where the rocks had been blown apart many years ago. There is a wall of pure quartz there, perhaps fifteen feet high and twenty wide. I have never seen anything like it.
Some of these are old claims on public lands. We just like to poke around, but in recent years treasure hunters have been taking metal detectors to these old mines to work over the tailings piles. Occasional gold nuggets are found inside the rocks there. To make this outdoor adventure more profitable and adventurous, you need to find the mines that are five miles or more from any road, like those in the San Juan mountains of southwestern Colorado.
How do you find them? We started by going online and searching “mines.” We obtained a list of 160 mines in Fremont County, Colorado alone. But only one of the five we recently found was on the list. Just hiking in mining country and keeping your eyes open works too. You can also find old mines noted on many topographical maps.
Searching For Swimming Holes
Ask around and you might get directions to hidden swimming holes. We found a beautiful one a mile down a small creek in this way. We also met fifteen other people there, jumping from the cliffs into a small pool.
If you want to find less populated ones, you need to get a topographical map and start searching. Look for narrow canyons with year-round streams (hard hiking and climbing assures you that there won’t be a crowd). Then you need to get out there and start exploring. I was out the other day swimming in a nice pool below a nine-foot waterfall, and in the six times I have been in that canyon, I have never seen another person.
Huckleberry Finn Adventures
Have you ever thought about building a raft and floating down a river like Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer? This works best in wide rivers that have long stretches without rapids. We used to do it on the Manistee River in Michigan.
Our rafting adventures usually started with parking the car downstream from a long wild stretch and walking up the river for a hour or so, taking a shortcut that cut past the big loops and bends. We carried snacks and water, a saw and hatchet, and scraps of rope. By afternoon we had built a raft of dead trees and began the float back to the car. That’s usually when the real fun started. Here’s a tip: have long poles for controlling the 1,500-pound pile of logs and humans you’ll be guiding around and under trees.
Fishing For Smelt By Hand
In Northern Michigan and Wisconsin the smelt run up many streams in the early spring. People love these fish because they are easily cleaned and when deep fried do not need to be scaled. One night I saw the back of a pickup truck filled with the smelt from one small creek. They are caught simply by dipping a net in and scooping them out.
It’s nice to get outdoors at night (when the smelt run), but for a bit more fun, try catching them by hand. Just lay on the creek bank and hold the flashlight over the water. When a smelt swims by, quickly pin it to the bottom and grab it. I have caught 40 in a hour using this technique. They made a decent meal for several of us. This last one isn’t the most exciting of these outdoor adventures, but it is satisfying to catch dinner with your own hands.

Hiking Adventures: Perfect for Family Trips or Romantic Getaways
Are you interested in taking a trip? Whether you are looking to take a traditional trip with your family or go on a romantic getaway, have you ever thought about going on a hiking adventure? Hiking adventures are nice because they are great for just about everyone, as well as just about any occasion.
One of the many reasons why hiking is great for both romantic getaways and family trips is because hiking trials come in a number of different formats. In the United States, you will find hiking trails that are designed for beginners, hiking trails that are designed for experts, as well as those that are at the intermediate hiking level. This is great if you are planning on hiking with your children, as you should be able to find a number of hiking trails that would be easy for them to hike.
As for romantic getaways, one of the many reasons why hiking is perfect for a romantic getaway is because of the scenery. The scenery is one of the many reasons why hiking is such a popular activity. No matter what hiking trail you choose to hike, there is a good chance that you will come across a wide array of landscape. Many hiking trails are set next to rivers; therefore, there is a good chance that you will get to see some waterfalls. These waterfalls, as well as the other scenery types that you may come across are perfect for romantic getaways.
In keeping with romantic getaways, hiking adventures can last as short as a few hours or as long as a whole week. Many individuals who go hiking choose to stay onsite, often at an onsite campground. This is nice, as when you are camping you are one with nature. This setting is perfect for privacy, as well as romance. As for family vacations, camping overnight at a hiking park is also nice, as it adds another fun activity for you and your family to enjoy. If you are planning on hiking with your children, there is a good chance that they would find the camping part just as exciting as the hike itself.
Speaking of activities, when you go hiking, you will likely end up visiting a hiking park. Hiking parks are often home to a number of different hiking trails. In addition to being home to a number of hiking trails, as well as a campground, you will also likely find a number of other activities for you and your family or you and your romantic partner to participate in. For instance, it is not uncommon for a hiking park to have a playground or a swimming pool. This means that you and whoever else you are with may enjoy playing a few outdoor games or going for a swim. In today’s society, hiking isn’t just about hiking anymore.
As you can see, from being outlined above, hiking is the perfect way to spend your next family vacation or even your next romantic getaway. If you are interested in enjoying a hiking adventure, you may want to think about making your reservations in advance. While you may not necessarily need a reservation to just go hiking, you may need one if you are interested in camping out overnight. Making your reservations in advance will help to ensure that your next hiking and camping adventure is as memorable as possible.

Amazing Outdoor Adventures Abound in the Western Cape of South Africa
For the traveler who wants to experience the Ultimate outdoor vacation, the Western Cape of South Africa offers activities and adventure like no other destination. There is plenty to do and see here, including majestic Table Top mountain, the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, hundreds of miles of beaches, whale watching, and diamond shopping. You’ll need plenty of endurance to experience everything that the Western Cape of South Africa has to offer, including internationally ranked surfing and other extreme activities.
As you fly in, the first thing you will notice are the endless beaches. Remember, there are two oceans on the Western Cape of South Africa and they both have beaches; so the surf and sand go on forever. The Indian Ocean is warmer than the Atlantic, so it is more popular for sunbathing. The real attraction for surfers however, is Haut Bay, where the surf surges against the jagged rocks and international surfing contests are frequently held. Sunbathers will prefer the beaches of the Western Cape ‘Riviera’, a place where the rich like to see and be seen.
Something else to be seen on the Western cape of South Africa are the whales. Many whales, including the Humpback Whale, come to the Western Cape to mate and calve during the summer months.
Hiking enthusiasts love Table Mountain, the tallest peak in the Western Cape of South Africa. It rises 3,300 feet over the City Bowl of Cape Town, and is so tall that the summit is often surrounded by clouds that are referred to as the ‘table cloth.’ By following the trails that lead to the summit, hikers can enjoy views of Cape Town as well as the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. For those who want to ride, there is also a cable car that goes to the top.
The Garden Route affords weary travelers some easier walking along the Atlantic Ocean. The Garden Route is a series of trails that winds around the coastline on the Western Cape of South Africa. Here, visitors can enjoy flower gardens, native forests, and breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean. The Garden Route also runs parallel to the famous Route 62, which is a beautiful drive along the coast as well.
Another popular tour in the Western Cape of South Africa is the Wine Route. The famous Constantia Wine Route is thriving these days, thanks to a boom in the wine production on the Western Cape. This is a great place to get a close-up look at wine production and sample the wine and cuisine of this picturesque valley.
Not to be overlooked, the city of Cape Town has some of the best shopping in the Western Cape of South Africa. Shoppers usually head straight for the ‘Diamond Works’, one of the best places in the world to buy diamond jewelry. Shopping abounds all throughout Cape Town, which also has the largest collection of Cape Dutch style buildings in the world.
The Western Cape of South Africa isn’t as hard to get to as it might seem. The Cape Town Airport is near to all of the attractions and has direct international flights. The Western Cape of South Africa is an amazing place to visit, especially if you love incredible outdoor adventures.
